As we have continued to evolve our Fieldforce solution we had quickly become aware that developing the security and synchronization features was essentially re-building the wheel and decided to “stand on the shoulders” of giants like Microsoft and others instead.
There are already very robust frameworks available as open source projects that handle all of the functionality we needed for Fieldforce and we can incorporate all of them quickly. This turns our small Automationforce development team into a team of thousands of dedicated developers that contribute to those frameworks.
All we have to do in return is to make Fieldforce open source as well. We are planning on working with several utilities to build out the rest of the features needed for Fieldforce and rely on the Substation Design Solutions Industry Consortium (SDSIC) as the governing body.
We believe this is going to be a win-win for the community and the industry as a whole. We will be able to openly vote on features and functions available and Automationforce can implement them using existing open source frameworks.
